What is The Behavioral Health Consultation Service?
The Behavioral Health Consultation (BHC) Service is a program being made available to patients within The Family Practice as a part of overall optimal health care. The purpose of this service is to offer assistance when habits, behaviors, stress, worry, or emotional concerns about physical or other life problems are interfering with someone's daily life.
WHO Is The Behavioral Health Consultant and WHAT Kinds of Problems Can They Help With?

Dr. Orr is a Clinical Health Psychologist with specialty training who works as part of your medical team. This team approach allows us to consider physical, behavioral, and emotional aspects of your health. For example: Dr. Orr can help reduce symptoms associated with various chronic medical conditions or help you cope better with these conditions. These include: chronic insomnia, migraine and tension headaches, fibromyalgia, diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome, and more.

He can help develop plans for behavioral change programs, such as smoking cessation, weight loss, alcohol use, exercise or other lifestyle modifications.

Dr. Orr can also help with family or relationship difficulties, excess stress, bereavement, depression, anxiety, or anger problems.

WHAT Should I Expect When I See the BHC?

You can expect to be asked specific questions about your physical symptoms, any emotional concerns you are experiencing, your behaviors, and how all of these might be related.

As with all health care providers, communications with Dr. Orr are confidential to the extent of law. Every effort will be made to protect your privacy, except in those cases which you are a danger to self or others, or are gravely disabled.

Your appointments will vary in length from 30 minutes to one hour. Dr. Orr will help identify and provide brief solution-focused interventions. You can also expect to be seen by your PCM and for the Dr. Orr to have a close working relationship with your provider.

Remember: Your provider remains in charge of your health care - the BHC's primary job is to help you and your provider develop and implement the best integrated health care plan for YOU!

HOW is this Service Different From Mental Health?
The services provided by the Dr. Orr are simply another part of your overall health care. Ordinarily, traditional psychotherapy is not a part of this service. However, if you request, or Dr. Orr thinks you would benefit from specialty mental health services, you will work together to develop a specialty mental health care treatment plan.
How do I schedule a BHC appointment?
Discuss your desire to access this service with your provider. If you and your provider agree this service would be of help, you will be given an initial consultative appointment.
Fee Schedule
Please call the office for information on the initial consultation fee. Dr. Orr will determine with you what the ongoing fees will be as part of your treatment plan.
